Stout Week offers a warm toast to winter weather The Asheville Brewers Alliance will welcome a slight warming trend to the winter months when the organization hosts Stout Week, February 9-15, at numerous venues throughout Asheville.
“For beer connoisseurs, there’s a beverage for every season,” says Karis Roberts, Executive Director of the Asheville Brewers Alliance. “And for the cold winter months, that means it’s time to celebrate the bold character of stouts, porters, and other full-bodied brews.”
These varieties are popular in the colder times of year in part because of their deep and complex flavors. They typically go well with hearty winter dishes like steak or stews. Stouts are also popular when paired with rich desserts like chocolate cake.
“And if you can enjoy them beside a fireplace,” Roberts says, “all the better.”
This is the Asheville Brewers Alliance’s first-ever focus on the richer beverage offerings since the trade group was established in 2009. Stout Week is designed to be a celebration of stout beers across Western North Carolina, and a toast to community resilience in the wake of Tropical Storm Helene.
Local breweries and tap rooms can participate at no charge and promote both a stout (and a non-stout) beer, and potentially host an associated event, such as a live music performance, brewer talk, stout-themed trivia, or other activities. Participating breweries are also encouraged to promote a specific charity or Helene recovery effort. More details on participating venues, featured brews, and events are available at http://stoutweek.com
Following Stout Week, the Alliance will produce The Love of Craft Festival (2/22/25) and its 14th annual Asheville Beer Week (5/15-5/25), a celebration of experiences, connections, and enjoyment of Western North Carolina’s craft beverage ecosystem, which includes distilleries, cideries, non-alcohol beverage producers, and more. Beer Week promises a variety of unique events including tastings, festivals, dinners, talks, tours, shows, and other activities.
